Letter: Wasted time

I was disappointed to read about a group of activists that wasted our elected officials time at the recent Concord City Council meeting. These activists wanted the City Council to pass a resolution calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. International affairs are completely outside the City Council’s scope. Do these activists think Prime Minister Netanyahu is ready to stop his offensive, he is just waiting to hear from the City of Concord, NH? If these activists really cared about Gaza and not attention, they would have been at President Biden’s first visit to New Hampshire since 2022.

President Biden controls the purse strings that can stop the violence. He won’t because if there is one thing Democrats and Republicans can agree on it is funding wars. Going to the City Council and not Biden about Gaza is like complaining to the Wendy’s manager for an incident at McDonalds, it is pointless. The Concord City Council has some serious issues to deal with. Homelessness, lack of affordable housing and minimizing our annual property tax increases to name a few. Every minute taken up by these activists is a minute lost to address real issues facing the city. I applaud Mayor Champlin for sticking to real city business.
