Letter: Bradley Haas bill

On Thursday, NH Republican Senators voted to kill the Officer Bradley Haas Bill, HB 1711. This was a common sense, bipartisan and modest attempt to keep firearms out of the hands of people like the one who murdered Officer Bradley Haas. On Friday, Chris Sununu, our Republican governor, ordered flags to be flown at half mast to honor police who have fallen in our service. This empty gesture does nothing to help prevent future deaths of our police but makes a good headline.

Maybe he should have encouraged his colleagues in the Senate to pass the Officer Bradley Haas bill. It would certainly be nice for Republican legislators to actually do something about these deaths besides some token thanks to fallen police officers. The ballot box is the only way to get reasonable firearm legislation passed despite the heavily gerrymandered advantage the Republicans have built into the system. We need to elect legislators who care about rampant gun violence. Elections have consequences.
