Letter: Make America kind again

For my entire life I’ve been a political independent. I’ve voted for Republicans, Democrats or independents these many years. Always making it a practice to vote for the person, not the party, I’ve never felt the need to join a political party, until now. The Trump-MAGA takeover of the GOP has moved me solidly into the Democratic column. I read much of the Trump-associated Project 2025, and am horrified.

A federal abortion ban, dismissing federal employees who are not seen to be loyal to Trump, investing the office of the president with previously unheard-of power, installing senior state department officials into acting roles which would not require Senate confirmation, prioritizing nuclear weapons over other security programs, prohibiting Medicare from negotiating drug prices, eliminating the “morning after pill” and “abortion pill,” making the director of the FBI personally accountable to the president and overseen by the White House instead of the Department Of Justice, gutting any attempt to rein-in climate change, the list goes on and is all horrific. Trump is the only president in our history who lost an election, refused to concede or participate in the peaceful transfer of power, and influenced followers to try to overthrow the election by attacking Congress. “It will be wild!”, he said. This November, give MAGA extremism the boot. Let’s work together to Make America kind again!
