Letter: Generational wealth

On Tuesday night at the DNC Convention, Michelle Obama called out Donald Trump for, among other things, “benefitting from the affirmative action of generational wealth.” I have seen this in action at my alma mater where the sons of rich parents arrived with a certain arrogance and sense of entitlement. So it seems with Maggie Tamposi Goodlander. The granddaughter of multi-millionaire developer Sam Tamposi and mother Republican stalwart Betty Tamposi, Maggie has come home to New Hampshire, after years away, to run for Rep. Annie Kuster’s 2nd District seat.

She is heavily funded by her Washington contacts and endorsed by others, including Hillary Clinton. And like many politicians in New Hampshire, points out that she was born here, unlike our Sens. Shaheen (St. Charles, MO) and Hassan (Lincoln, MA). Why should this matter when more that 60% of our current citizens were born elsewhere? And while there are many assignments and activities on her resume, it also suggests that she can’t, or doesn’t want, to hold a job. Which makes me think that this move to New Hampshire and run for the U.S. House is just a precursor to a run for the U.S. Senate in 2026.
