Letter: Penny-wise and pound foolish

“Penny-wise and pound foolish,” an idiom that describes someone who is careful with small amounts of money but careless with large amounts. After reading the “Rebuilding Rundlett” series (kudos to Monitor staff for this) it’s clear that no description of the current Concord School Board could be more apropos. If the board is so concerned with the safety of the children, why wouldn’t they pay for upkeep costs of the various school buildings in the district, so that they don’t get to the state the current Rundlett building supposedly is?

Oh, that’s right, then they wouldn’t be able to justify spending tens of millions of dollars on a sprawling complex that would best those of districts twice their size. Oh and thank you, oh great Concord School Board, for agreeing to save four acres of wilderness, around the proposed Broken Ground site, and only clear cutting 25 instead of the 29 that you’d targeted. I’m sure the northern long-eared bats, Blanding’s turtles and deer will appreciate it. Two weeks ‘til election day.
