Letter: Concord Train Station, revisited

I enjoyed Jim Spain’s recent article on the Concord Train Station. Born and raised in Concord, I have a few memories of the station when I was young. I vaguely remember some of the detail of the building like the Concord Coach in the foyer and I seem to remember a grand clock in the main great room. My dad, Bill Hodges, a model railroader and former assistant city engineer in Concord, constructed an HO scale model of the train station building, down to the last detail. He painstakingly created the likeness from pictures, drawing and descriptions. He recreated all the elaborate stone and brick work, copper roofing and the doors, and window sash details are even accurate. It was a beautiful likeness.
When my dad passed, my brothers and I elected to offer it to the Concord Public Library. They gratefully accepted this gift and it is displayed in the front foyer off to the right as you walk in. It is housed in it’s own case and you can examine the beautiful features of the building in three dimension. I hope Mr. Spain or anyone else with any fond recollections or memories of the building will go visit and take a step back in time. While the building is gone it’s memory is clearly captured here.
