Letter: Cold classrooms

New Hampshire’s Solicitor General, Anthony Galdieri, argued in front of the state Supreme Court this week that heating and lighting classrooms need not be considered part of an adequate education, and we, as taxpayers, paid for him to do so on our behalf. He suggested that the decision to heat or light classrooms is best left to the local government and paid by local taxes. As if any local school board can run a school without that expense.
Would you rather pay for a state lawyer to argue for cold classrooms or to heat them? We must end the New Hampshire Legislature’s evasion of their responsibility to support the education of New Hampshire’s children. We cannot rely on our Commissioner of Education, Mr. Edelblut, to lead this effort, because he is not an advocate for the public schools, but rather for private education. Look to the votes of your representatives and instruct them to support an adequate education.
