New Hampshire’s new U.S. attorney has been sworn in in a courtroom packed with former colleagues and well-wishers.

Emily Gray Rice was nominated by President Barack Obama at the recommendation of his Democratic colleague U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen in June. Republican U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte supported the nomination, which was approved by the Senate in December.

Rice was sworn in Thursday. She previously worked as professor at the University of New Hampshire Law School, as a trial lawyer in private practice and at the New Hampshire attorney general’s office.

She replaces acting U.S. Attorney Donald Feith. The previous U.S. attorney, John Kacavas, resigned last year after six years on the job to become chief legal officer and general counsel for Dartmouth-Hitchcock health systems.
