Hopkinton’s Hannah Kelsey, a senior at The Derryfield School, took the top spots in all of her competitions at the USASA Nationals Snowboarding Championship in Cooper Mountain, Colo. Kelsey, who has been snowboarding competitively for six years, placed first in the Slopestyle and Woman 18-24 Slopestyle, and second place in both the Rail Jam, Women 14 & Over and BoarderCross, Women 18-24. Kelsey trains with the Waterville Valley Black and Blue Trail Smashers snowboard team.
The Pembroke JV baseball team beat Lebanon, 13-2. The entire team contributed offensively, while James Bonefant caught for the Spartans and Matt Ferguson earned the complete-game win.
The Hopkinton boys’ JV lacrosse team beat Monadnock, 9-2. Ryan Hughes and Reed Tanavasu played well defensively, while Paul Molnar had a strong game offensively and JJ Locke scored a goal.
Concord Crew competed against regional teams from throughout New England at the 2016 Saratoga Invitational Regatta in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., over the weekend. Both women’s and men’s teams rowed well against the large field.
The previous weekend, Concord Crew competed against Greater Lawrence Rowing in the traditional spring season opener. The team worked hard and swept the men’s Varsity 8 and all women’s events. While the Varsity 4 boats worked hard, those races went to Lawrence.
Capital Sporting Goods defeated Constantly Pizza in AA baseball. For Capital Sporting Goods, Cole Hatton, Drew Lamphere and Connor Faherty combined to pitch a shutout. Lamphere added a single and a run scored while Tommy Weaver had two RBI. For Constantly Pizza, Nolan Wolff and Ryan Stephenson each pitched a scoreless inning. Josh Gurtner did well at the plate.
The Rowley Agency-Bow 1 softball team defeated Moses Trucking-Chichester, 16-1. For Moses Trucking, Julia Cipriano scored and Haley Hapgood performed well in relief. For Rowley, Madison Speckman had a great play at first and hit a home run and relief pitcher Abby Alexacos, in her pitching debut, had three strikeouts in a row to end the game.
The U15 “Alliance FC Premier” soccer team defeated U17 FC United of Massachusetts, 9-0. Sabrynna Pearson, Miah Munroe (two), Lindsay Leblond (two), Lauren Goyette (two), Kimberley Gosselin and Brooke Ribiero scored. Savannah Twombly had two assists and goalie Hannah Autenrieth preserved the shutout.
The Freedom girls’ soccer U11 team beat Hampton Attack, 12-0, and Exeter Hawks, 10-0, while the U10 team beat Seacoast Manchester, 2-0, and Exeter Hawks, 5-0. The Freedom girls’ U17 Elite team beat St. Michael’s Premier team out of New Bedford, Mass., 9-1.
Concord’s Adam Berger, a senior at Brandeis, earned his first career All-UAA honor, winning the triple jump with a career-best distance of 13.63 meters at the UAA Championships. Berger also was seventh in the long jump.
New London’s Steph Bonewald, a senior at St. Michael’s College, had two goals, two ground balls and two draw controls in the women’s lacrosse team’s 15-9 loss to St. Anselm. She added two goals and two ground balls in a win over Queens, and scored three times in a loss to Stonehill.
Loudon’s Warren Bartlett, a freshman at Plymouth State, was named Little East Conference men’s track Rookie of the Week. Bartlett was runner-up in the 1500 in 4:01.58, meeting the New England Division III Championships qualifying standard.
The Tilton School JV baseball team fell to Proctor. Josh Lennon, Cal Johnson and Drew Frost had all eight of the Rams’ hits.
