Comeback falls short

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats crossed the plate three times in the fifth inning Wednesday to cut its deficit to a single run, but couldn’t complete the comeback on their way to a 4-3 loss to the Reading Fightin’ Phils (16-10).

Reading scored three times in the first inning and added a single tally in the third, but was held scoreless over the game’s final six innings to the delight of the Northeast Delta Dental Stadium crowd.

New Hampshire was held hitless over the game’s first four innings, before Shane Opitz’s bases-loaded double in the fifth provided the home team with its only three runs of the contest.

The teams will round out their four-game series today with the first pitch slated for 11:35 a.m.
