Governor Maggie Hassan helped unveil the portrait suffragist Marilla Marks Young Ricker at the State House Monday afternoon. The portrait was commissioned to artist Kate Gridley of Vermont. Marilla Marks Young Ricker first attempted to vote in 1870 at the age of 30, ran for Governor and went on to be admitted to the US Supreme Court bar in 1891. Ricker died on Nov. 12, 1920, the same month women were given the vote for the first time.
