Fans of classic cinema will have the opportunity to enjoy Charlie Chaplin’s masterpiece “City Lights” (1931) at Red River Theatres on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The film is being shown from a special dcp “master copy,” the only one of its kind, from its distributor Janus Films, on the big screen, a rare opportunity to see a nearly flawless presentation of the film, which features a music score by Chaplin himself in a rich orchestral version recorded for the 100th anniversary of the director’s birth by Timothy Brock and the Chaplin Estate. It is being shown in conjunction with the independent cinema’s yearly spring membership drive, which this year took its inspiration from the renovation of downtown Concord’s Main Street and installation of antique-looking street lights, and features Chaplin’s “Little Tramp” alongside one of the new Concord streetlamps with tagline “Members Light Up the City” on its marketing materials.
