I am a community member of Pembroke who would like to move forward.
School officials should produce a valid reason why they could not disclose the drug arrest of the school counselor. Otherwise, they should accept the responsibility for poor judgment (we all have it from time to time) and move on.
I think this is all anyone wants. The energy should be put into developing a plan for better communication and drug testing of school employees, like is done with other employees in town.
At the recent school board meeting, the town was fortunate to have a competent police department that didn’t step over the line with Mr. Pearl, otherwise we could all be pulling more money from our wallets for legal fees.
Allowing Mr. Pearl to speak may have eliminated any potential issue. I have served on several committees in town and have never seen an individual deprived of his or her opinion unless they were disruptive or threatening.
My opinion is that everyone has the right to their views. I commend Mr. Pearl for his persistence in bringing a problem to light so it can be handled better next time.
