Nova Southeastern scored first in a Division II College Baseball World Series game against Franklin Pierce on Saturday in Cary, N.C., but more importantly, the Sharks scored last, too. The run that crossed the plate for Nova Southeastern (40-16) in the bottom of the 12th inning secured a 4-3 win on the double-elimination tournamentโs opening day.
The No. 1 Ravens (48-8) got out of multiple jams but losing pitcher Anthony Matarazzo allowed an RBI single to Jancarlos Cintron to seal the victory for the South Region champions.
Max DiTondo, Matthew OโHerron and Maxx Sheehan drove in one run apiece for Franklin Pierce, which plays in an elimination game Tuesday. Tanner Bird struck out five in 5 innings of relief. Starter Paul Covelle was lifted after allowing two unearned runs on six hits in two innings.
