The town has restored the resting place of Civil War Major William H. Appleton, a Medal of Honor recipient. He was born in Chichester and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery on Buck Street, near Suncook Village. EnviroVantage of Epping removed asbestos-bearing material in the mortar joints of the Appleton-Badger brick tomb and Pro-Point Restoration of Pittsfield completed the repointing using mortar that is compatible with the bricks of the tomb.
