Police in Florida said MMA fighter Kimbo Slice was taken to a hospital, though reason why wasn’t immediately clear, and multiple reports, including one from promotion company Bellator MMA, said that the fighter died at the age of 42.
“We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating and untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family,” Bellator President Scott Coker said in a statement, according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.
Coral Springs Police Sgt. Carla Kmiotek said Monday night that a local hospital told the department the fighter, whose real name is Kevin Ferguson, was a patient.
She said officers were dispatched to his home with the expectation that a crowd would gather there.
Kmiotek didn’t provide details about his condition or why he was hospitalized but said there’s no active police investigation. She said no foul play is suspected.
A hospital representative couldn’t immediately be reached by the Associated Press.
Slice rose to fame through fighting videos that made him an internet sensation.
