NFL Former Seahawks player Jackson arrested in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Tarvaris Jackson was arrested in central Florida after authorities say he pulled a gun on his wife.

An Osceola County Sheriff’s Office arrest report said the 33-year-old Jackson had been visiting family in Kissimmee when the incident occurred early Friday. Jackson’s wife told the deputy that Jackson had returned to their rental home drunk and began yelling at her, eventually pulling the gun and threatening to kill her. Jackson said they had been arguing but denied pointing a gun at her.

Jackson was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and bonded out of jail later Friday. Jail records didn’t list an attorney.

Jackson, who was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2006 and played for them until 2010, first went to Seahawks as the starting quarterback in 2011. He later spent three years there as a backup. He is currently a free agent.

Baseball Yankees activate 1B Teixeira from DL, cut Ike Davis

NEW YORK – First baseman Mark Teixeira was activated from the 15-day disabled list and is in the New York Yankees’ lineup against the Minnesota Twins.

Teixeira batted sixth Saturdya, his first major league game since June 3. The switch-hitter had been sidelined with torn cartilage in his right knee.

To open a spot on the roster, New York designated first baseman Ike Davis for assignment. Davis was signed June 13 and went 3-for-14 (.214) with an RBI for the Yankees.

New York Manager Joe Girardi said the team chose to keep Rob Refsnyder over Davis in part because Refsnyder can play other positions besides first base.

The 36-year-old Teixeira went 1-for-9 in three rehab games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The three-time All-Star was struggling at the plate before he got hurt, batting .180 with three homers and 12 RBI.

In six rehab games, Gordon hit .364 with a .481 on-base percentage, .545 slugging percentage, one home run and five RBIs with Triple-A Omaha and Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The NHL is reviewing whether to penalize the Vancouver Canucks for tampering after General Manager Jim Benning expressed interest in acquiring players under contract, including Tampa Bay captain Steven Stamkos.

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said on Saturday that he expects a decision to be made within days after receiving complaints from numerous teams. Daly said the severity of punishment will be based on how “damaging” the comments might have been.

The potential discipline would range from a fine or Vancouver losing a draft pick.

Benning also revealed the Canucks have contacted Montreal about acquiring star defenseman P.K. Subban.

Summer Olympics Jamaican sprinter Bailey-Cole reveals Zika infection but is competing

EASTBOURNE, England – Dominika Cibulkova won her second title of the year when she defeated Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic, 7-5, 6-3, Saturday in the Eastbourne International final.

The match was closely contested throughout, with neither player gaining an early advantage as six of the first eight games went against serve.

But although she broke again to lead 3-1 in the second, the 12th-seeded Slovak had to fight off two break points in the next game and another four at 4-2.

“It was extremely tough match today. With the conditions and with the wind it was really, really, really tough to play and focus,” Cibulkova said after winning her sixth career title.
