Richard Blood

Concord, NH – Richard A Blood of Concord, NH passed away suddenly on May 22. He was 91 years old.

Richard was born in Dover, NH. He spent his early years in Durham, attended the University of New Hampshire and received a master’s degree in agricultural economics from the University of Massachusetts. He worked for 30 years at the US Department of Agriculture and then as a courier for Eastern Analytical.

Richard moved to Concord with his family in 1978. He had many interests and hobbies and met many cherished friends through those activities. He was a long time contra dancer, regularly attending dances at town halls throughout New Hampshire and Vermont. He performed as a Merrimac Morris dancer, Ed Larkin dancer and in the Green Mountain Volunteers. He volunteered at the NH Forest Society in East Concord and was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Concord for 46 years.

He appreciated an excellent flashlight, a well-made kitchen utensil, an accurate measurement, and using the right tool for a job. He loved listening to music, being around people, and was kind, trustworthy, and supportive.

In addition to many dear friends, he left behind his sister Barabara Milburn of Portland, ME (preceded in death by his brother-in-law Harry Milburn), and daughters Erica Hardy (husband George) of Pawtucket RI and Emily Scherer (husband Andy) of Norwich VT and his beloved grandchildren Maggie, Geddy, Elsie, and Micah as well as his nieces and nephews. His family and friends brought him immense joy during his life. He was a much loved father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Richard’s life is planned for Saturday October 3rd at 2pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Concord, NH.
