We are indebted and thankful to Steve Burritt, Henniker Fire Chief, and to the firefighters from Henniker, Hopkinton, Weare, Bradford, Salisbury, Warner, Hillsboro, Keene, and Hinsdale for fighting and taming (it is still a threat) the 14 acre forest fire in our forest located on the backside of Shaker Hill in Henniker.

The terrain is difficult with limited access, cliffs, and no water access.

These firefighters spent hours and continue to do so since last weekend combating the fire. We are blessed to live in a state where towns work together to assist neighbors in a time of distress. The fire could have covered many more acres but for the timely efforts of the firefighters.

In speaking with Chief Steve Burritt, he has been reassuring to us that they will continue to monitor the fire until it is completely extinguished.

Due to the drought like conditions, the fire danger remains high. The person or persons who caused this nightmare by not extinguishing the unauthorized campfire have not been identified. The dry conditions should have been a warning to all to avoid building campfires.

These irresponsible individuals, nevertheless, did so and have created a hazard for our woodland.

Again, thank you Chief Burritt and to all firefighters for your extraordinary efforts on our behalf and our neighbors whose property was threatened.
