Got Lunch! Laconia, a summer healthy lunch community collaborative that delivers healthy groceries to children’s homes, is entering the sixth summer. It is a stable and well established program with several well-known fundraisers and an amazing donor base.
We also live in a community that supports our efforts greatly to feed the children of Laconia. The Greater Lakes Region Children’s Auction has contributed more than $100,000 over the six years. Franklin Savings Bank, Bank of N.H., Kiwanis, Lakes Region Rotary, Laconia Rotary and Kiwanis have also contributed to our program, including employee volunteers to help pack and deliver healthy food to children.
Got Lunch! Laconia has also been a good steward of the money given to us by collaborating with the New Hampshire Food Bank and other local groceries stores. Since the beginning of the program we have been creative in providing the children with the best nutrition. We began a partnership with VISTA Foods in 2012 to get dairy products into the diets of the children. VISTA created a voucher with the value of $5 that can be redeemed for eggs, milk, cheese and yogurt. They bill us for the cost of the items purchased. VISTA purchases the large volumes of bread and fruit that we need providing needed storage for us as well. When Hannaford’s has great sales on fruit, canned chicken or tuna we partner with them for these items.
