Dollar General is coming to Henniker.

The planning board approved the chain variety store’s site plan application for a 9,100 square-foot building at 123 Bradford Road in a 5-1 decision Wednesday night. Selectwoman Tia Hooper made the motion, and Scott Dias was the lone planning board member to vote against the application.

The plan was approved on the contingency that store hours be held between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. with deliveries adhering to the town’s noise ordinance, and that an independent consultant evaluate the store’s outdoor lighting after it is built.

The store will go up on Route 114 across the street from the Henniker Farm & Country Store. The land has not yet been sold and is currently owned by Kathryn Tucker.

Dollar General met strong opposition when it first presented a conceptual site plan to the board in April with several residents turning out to speak against the store opening in town. Nearly three months later, the resistance is still there, particularly among abutters, but the strength in numbers has been waning.
