A fecal bacteria warning for Weirs Beach at the height of the hot, bustling tourist season has been lifted by the state.

The state Department of Environmental Services posted an advisory after high levels of fecal bacteria were discovered during a routine check on July 27 and in tests afterward.

It is the third time DES has posted an advisory at the beach this summer. The beach received one such warning in 2015, another in 2014, and two in 2013.

Advisories for fecal bacteria or cyanobacteria are fairly common for beaches during the summer across the state, but dry weather could be a contributing factor. The advisory in Laconia lasted 10 days before being lifted Saturday.

An advisory does not close the beach. Swimmers can still go in the water, and lifeguards warn swimmers of the bacteria risk.
