Boscawen has a new boat.

With approval of money for the public safety agencies at its town meeting in March, Boscawen received its new water rescue equipment – a red Zodiac Mil-Pro inflatable boat package, in late July.

The town made the purchase, Boscawen co-administrator Alan Hardy said, to help the Penacook Rescue Squad.

“(They) wanted to focus their effort on providing the best emergency medical and rescue services for the towns of Boscawen and Canterbury but they were not able to replace their aging rescue boat,” Hardy said. “Since we are a small town with a dedicated volunteer fire department . . . fire Chief Ray Fisher believed that this should be a multi-agency approach.”

When Fisher recommended the Zodiac rescue package, the voter-approved appropriation – $15,000 – fell short.

Boscawen received help from Elektrisola-USA, a wire manufacturer in town that agreed to donate $5,000 after being approached by the select board.

The boat went into service July 25.
