Former Patriots tackle Matt Light campaigned for Donald Trump in Manchester on Thursday, saying he looks forward to a time “when Donald Trump and Mike Pence take this country to where it should be and where it needs to be.”
The 6-foot-5, 305-pound product of Purdue University introduced Pence, the Indiana governor and Republican vice presidential nominee, and said he feels it’s time he asserts himself politically.
“At 38 years old, I haven’t gotten involved, and I’m going to get involved now,” he said.
Light, who retired in 2012, made a career out of pushing people. And that’s what he spurred the crowd to do Thursday.
“Keep pushing the people around you, have real conversations, truly debate things,” he said.
After momentarily stepping away from the microphone, he returned for a parting shot against NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who ordered Patriots QB Tom Brady suspended for four games over the Deflategate incident.
“We’ll try to get both President Trump and Vice President Pence to get maybe a little bit of an education for our guy Roger Goodell. There may be some room out there to help Roger make some great decisions,” he said. “Let’s make America great again, folks!”
