Back-to-back car crashes on the southbound side of Interstate 93 kept rescue crews busy Friday and sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries.
Emergency crews responded to a report of a Ford pickup truck that sideswiped the guardrail and struck a tree in the center median in Canterbury.
The truck, driven by 34-year-old Manuel Dejesus, of Northwood received heavy front-end damage leaving one of the passengers pinned inside. State police, along with members of the Canterbury Fire Department and Penacook Fire and Rescue, worked to free the passenger from the wreck, police said.
The passenger, who was not named, sustained multiple injuries and was taken to Concord Hospital. Dejesus and another passenger in the truck received minor injuries, police said.
Just north of the crash, as traffic began to slow down, a car driven by 75-year-old David Maciel of Gilmanton was rear ended by 21-year-old Jacob MacDonald of Plymouth, Mass.
The collision caused significant rear-end damage to Maciel’s vehicle, while Maciel received minor injuries, police said.
Police said MacDonald was speeding, inattentive and driving too close to Maciel’s vehicle. He was cited for following too closely.
The crashes remain under investigation.
