Some city property is still drying out after the pouring rain that fell overnight Sunday into Monday.
The worst of it, said Jay Burgess, superintendent of public properties, is the lone elevator in the Capital Commons parking garage on Storrs Street, which is out of service.
The rain water came down on top of the cab and got into the electronics of the control panel behind the buttons, he said, frying it.
If it were a cell phone, he said, heโd put it in a bag of rice to accelerate the drying process, but โwe canโt put an elevator in a big bag of rice.โ
โUntil everything dries out, we wonโt know what the damage is,โ he said Wednesday afternoon.
Until then, garage users will have to take the stairs.
Burgess said the rain also overwhelmed the drains in a city parking lot near the Concord City Auditorium.
The water was high enough to get into the Audi, wetting a rug and some paint in the basement. He said his team vacuumed the carpet on Monday and tried to get air circulating to help it dry out.
โI havenโt been down there today, but I felt it the middle of the day on Monday and it was beginning to dry up,โ he said.
Concord received between 2 and 3 inches of rainfall over the past week, according to the National Weather Service. That total is as high as was reported in any area of the state.
