Concord’s Ryan Doherty had a run to remember this past week, and now he sets his sights on competing on the national stage against an elite men’s lacrosse program.
Doherty, a junior at the University of Albany, led his team to its third straight America East Conference Championship on Saturday with a 14-11 win over Vermont. Doherty scored five goals and dished out two assists in the win. In the semifinals against the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Doherty scored four goals in a 14-3 win. He was named the America East tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
Next, Doherty and Albany will face one of the top programs in the nation, No. 3 University of North Carolina, in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The game will start at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 9.
Overall, this season, Doherty was one of the most efficient scorers for the Great Danes with 2.17 goals per game and a total of 35 points. He was named Second Team All-Conference and All-Academic Team.
