The Coe-Brown golf team lost its regular season finale, but the Bears achieved their goal of qualifying for the Division II state tournament for the third straight year.
Coe-Brown wrapped up its regular season with a 226-205 loss to second-place Hanover (21-2) at Hanover Country Club on Thursday. The Bears (14-8) will likely be the No. 8 seed.
“It’s tough competition, that’s for sure,” Coe-Brown Coach Tim Tenasco said. “It’s not a bad thing. As a coach, I’d rather face a team like that (before the tournament). Hanover’s been good for a long time.”
Coe-Brown was led by Joel Boulanger, who shot a 36 and earned medalist honors for the seventh time in nine matches this season. Boulanger will look for a strong finish in the individual tournament.
Dylan Andrews shot a 43 and has been consistently the No. 2 golfer for Coe-Brown all season.
“We’ve been led by Joel and Dylan who have set the standard this year for us. We’ve had outstanding scores from both of them,” Tenasco said.
Shane Fillion, Jake Flanagan and Max Begin all shot 49 to round out Coe-Brown’s scorers.
The D-II state tournament is Thursday at Beaver Meadow. Coe-Brown finished eighth last season and ninth in 2014.
“We want to finish better than we’ve finished in the past couple of years,” Tenasco said. “That’s the main goal.”
