A day after David Ortiz won the American League Hank Aaron Award, Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Dustin Pedroia were named Rawlings Gold Glove finalists.
Betts joined Adam Eaton of the Chicago White Sox and Houston’s George Springer as right field finalists. It would be the first Gold Glove award for all three.
Bradley Jr., Tampa Bay’s Kevin Kiermaier and Toronto’s Kevin Pillar were named finalists in center field. It would be the second Gold Glove for Kiermaier and the first for Bradley Jr. and Pillar.
Pedroia, who has won four Gold Gloves at second base, will go against Detroit’s Ian Kinsler, in search of his first, and Seattle’s Robinson Cano, looking for his third.
Ortiz was first in the AL with a .620 slugging percentage, 1.021 OPS and 48 doubles, finishing his final season with a .315 batting average, 38 home runs and 127 RBI. Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs won the NL’s Hank Aaron Award.
