Seven Stages Shakespeare Company will tackle William Shakespeare’s King Lear with a different perspective.
Billed just as Lear, the Newmarket troupe will show the play through the lens of Alzheimer’s disease, with a dialogue on memory and legacy.
“What is identity based in when you strip everything else away? How do we identify inside all of our social and familial circles? How do we identify inside of ourselves?” said Artistic Director Dan Beaulieu. “This is the story of a family dealing with what they are all capable of in the face of inevitable loss, and the power and beauty of forgiveness in those trying times.”
The 14-member ensemble will be led by Deb Kinghorn in the title role, with a cast of talent hailing from areas such as New York City; Portland, Maine; Seattle; Boston; and the Seacoast, to name a few.
Shows begin tonight and run through Nov. 12 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Millspace in Newmarket. Tickets are free or pay-what-you-will and must be reserved at 7stagesshakespeare.org.
