Scouts will pick up Scouting for Food donations after 8 a.m. on Saturday. Nonperishable food items (no glass containers) are appreciated. Donations will benefit area food pantries and soup kitchens.

The Penacook Historical Society will host a potluck supper at the Rolfe House on Wednesday at 6 p.m., followed by an exhibit of Penacook’s past. On display will be historical framed prints, along with a collection of electric meters and other items donated by Beede Electrical Instrument Company. Bring your stories and memories for a fun and informative look at Penacook’s working past.

The United Church of Penacook Christmas craft fair will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Crafters will be selling baked goods, Christmas decorations and gifts, knit and crocheted items, watercolors, quilts, jewelry, handbags and fashion accessories, doll clothes, and metalwork. The Heights Community Center has many activities for seniors. The Concord Christmas Parade Committee will meet Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. This parade is organized by Concord Grange 322 and relies on donations from businesses and organizations. The committee needs to raise $3,000 to pay the police, bands, awards and administrative expenses. The 65th annual Concord Christmas parade will be Nov. 19 at 9:30 a.m. Come out and see Santa Claus, bands and more. Call Dick Patten at 496-2917 or Jim Cusano at 225-8308 for parade information. To date, music will be provided by Concord High School and Merrimack Valley High School bands and the New Hampshire Pipe and Drums Corps. The committee would like all veterans and active-duty military to participate in the First Division, which is dedicated to honoring our Armed Forces. The Christmas tree lighting is scheduled for Nov. 25, and there will be events for all ages, including Santa Claus and fireworks. Donations are urgently needed.

The next meeting of Concord Grange 322 will be Nov. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the I.B.E.W. Hall, 48 Airport Road. The grange will drape its charter in memory of Arline French, who passed away recently. The Pope Memorial SPCA of Concord-Merrimack County is having an Adoption Day today at Petco from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A new feline friend awaits you – visit the off-site location at PetCo and adopt your newest companion. Go to the Capitol Center for the Arts on Wednesday at 8 p.m. to see The Jazz Ambassadors, the official touring big band of the United States Army. Formed in 1969, this 19-member ensemble has received great acclaim at home and abroad performing America’s greatest original art form, jazz. Free tickets. On Saturday, Bob Marley will perform two shows at 6:30 and 9 p.m. Marley, one of the hottest and most sought-after comedians in the country, has been featured in his Comedy Central special and is one of the few comics to complete the late-night TV circuit. The Robert Cray Band performs next Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Open ears and an open mind are the essence of singer, guitarist and songwriter Cray’s approach to writing, recording and playing music.

Another place to warm up is the Concord Public Library. If you need to de-stress, come to Coloring Night Tuesday and Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. The American Mahjong Group meets Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. Beginner Mahjong Group is on Wednesdays. 3-D Needle Felting Class is on Nov. 15. Val Griswold-Ford will present her newest novel, Winter’s Secrets, at Gibson’s Bookstore on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Molly Barrett is a kitchen witch running a tea shop in her aunt’s bookstore in Carter’s Cove, Maine, a small town with two extra-dimensional Gates connecting them with all sorts of interesting worlds. On Oct. 2, 1918, two Concord soldiers, Marine Lt. Paul Corriveau and Pvt. Herbert C. Drew, died in France on the same day. Corriveau was killed in action; Drew succumbed to pneumonia. Drew’s mother called the Concord Monitor’s attention to the coincidence that 20 years before the two men were in the same kindergarten class at Walker School. You can visit a memorial for Lt. Corriveau across from Abbott-Downing School in our neighborhood. We salute all our veterans. Thank veterans you know  and meet on the street Friday. 

My only goal for you is go vote! Do not stay home. Do not skip a line on the ballot. Do what you think will put this country on a track for success, however you define that. Go vote!
