A homeless man accused of attacking a woman outside the Concord Food Co-op early Tuesday while claiming to be a vampire is being held for lack of $15,000 bail.

Jacob May, 21, was arraigned Wednesday in Concord’s district court on charges of burglary and simple assault.

Police said a store employee was taking boxes out to a dumpster when May approached her and offered to help, claiming he was a vampire.

May pursued the woman inside the store, where he got into a fight with a male employee, police said. The two men fought, with May ending up inside a walk-in freezer for a short time before police arrived.

While in custody, May told police that he was a vampire, Ghost Rider, Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, Mr. Miyagi from The Karate Kid and the leader of a band.

Police said May was under the influence of alcohol, drugs or a combination of both at the time of the incident.

A probable cause hearing on the felony burglary charge is scheduled for Nov. 17. A judge will decide whether there is enough evidence to forward the case to Merrimack County Superior Court. That same day, attorneys will meet for a trial management conference on the misdemeanor simple assault charge, which will be resolved in the lower court.
