Junior Elinor Purrier finished first at the NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City on Friday, qualifying for the NCAA Championships next weekend in Indiana.

NHTI news

NHTI women’s soccer player Alexis Duclos of Epsom was named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association’s All-American First Team, while Pittsfield’s Stefani Gauthier was named to the Second Team and Penacook’s Danielle Wiley earned Honorable Mention. Wiley was also named to the All-Academic team.

Pittsfield’s Katie Steeves was named the Yankee Small College Conference Player of the Year after leading the NHTI volleyball team to a YSCC championship and a spot in the national tournament.

Northwood’s Jelasa Nelson, Wiley and Gauthier all scored, but the NHTI women’s soccer team lost the first game of pool play at the United States Collegiate Athletic Conference’s national tournament to SUNY ESF, 7-4.

Deerfield’s Meghan Hall was the top finisher for the NHTI women’s cross country team at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association’s national meet in Virginia Beach, Va., on Friday, finishing 95th overall. Laconia’s Tim Kneuer earned All-Academic honors for the men’s cross country team.

Track and field

Concord’s Buzz Gagne won the men’s 65-69 silver medal in the javelin at the 2016 World Masters Athletics Championship in Perth, Australia with a throw of 47.29 meters.

The John Stark Regional High School sports awards banquet for fall athletes will take place on Monday. The event will start in the cafeteria at 6 p.m. for food and drinks before moving to the gym at 6:30 p.m.

Amy Annis Volleyball Tournament is scheduled for Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. at both the Gilford High School and Gilford Middle School gymnasiums.
