Fairy tale characters like the Baker, Witch, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and Cinderella will come to life on stage tonight at John Stark.

Students will perform Stephen Sondheim’s musical, Into the Woods, with shows today through Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Tony Award-winning show tells a dark tale of the Baker and his Wife who long for a child, but are cursed. In order to lift the curse, they must retrieve four items for the Witch. Along the way, they run into Little Red Riding Hood, Jack of beanstalk lore, Cinderella and her Prince and Rapunzel.

All seems like they get their happy ending, but the show’s not over. There is trouble to come.

The show examines wishes and choices – and their consequences.

This is not Disney’s version of the tales.

John Stark’s show is directed by Jennifer Matzke.

The cast includes Rachael Wrzeszcz, Mikayla Caterino, Justin Purington, Ronal Hallee, April Goodwin, Tian Quinn, Quianna Willard, Robert Blouin, Nic Zerbinopolos, Lizzie Poehlman, Brian Parker, Victoria Bulcock, Chloe Labrie, Sarah Wagner, Lindsey Brunelle, Julia Meisser, Julia Swift, Spencer Janelle, Riley St. Amand, Darla Testino, Alyssa Robichaud, and Jessica Bedard.

Tickets are $5 for students and seniors and $7 for adults. They will be available at the door or by calling 529-1601.
