Originally conceived by Christian Fisher as an Eagle Scout project, the Potato Project brings 40,000 pounds of potatoes to those in need by providing potatoes to 35 soup kitchens and food pantries in central and southern New Hampshire. The project is $1,500 shy of its goal and donations will be gratefully accepted. Checks should be made out to Contoocook United Methodist Church (Potato Project on the memo line) and mailed to Contoocook Methodist Church, 28 Maple St., Contoocook 03229.
Winnisquam Regional Middle School opened a clothing closet for students in need with the help of AutoServ, whose donations helped purchase shelving, piping and other supplies to house clothes and school supplies. Parents, students, teachers and others can refer students in need by dropping a confidential note at the school guidance, nurse or administration offices.
