‘Georgia O’Keefe Paints Paradise will end its fall tour with a show at the Hatbox Theatre on Dec. 30 at 7 and 8:30 p.m.
The musical is based on a trip the famed artist made to Hawaii just before the outbreak of World War II in the Pacific. Dole Pineapple Company paid O’Keefe (Mary Armstrong of Harrisville) to go to Hawaii and do for the pineapple what she had done for flowers.
She did not have much success painting pineapples or getting along with her hosts until she met the 12-year-old daughter of a Dole plantation manager – and that’s where the musical starts.
The show has been nominated for best professional musical direction by the New Hampshire Theatre Awards. Armstrong is also a nominee for best actress.
It was written by Tom Dunn of Henniker and William Ogmundson of New London with the Alchemists’ Workshop.
Tickets are $16.50 for adults and $12 for seniors, students and members. For more information or to reserve tickets, visit hatbox.com or call 715-2315.
