A Northfield man is accused of robbing the Petro Mart convenience store on Lexington Drive in Laconia late Sunday.

Benjamin Kelso, 22, faces a felony charge of armed robbery in connection with the incident, which was reported at about 7:30 p.m., according to the Laconia Police Department.

A store clerk told police a man displayed what appeared to be a black handgun and demanded money. After taking money from the register, the man fled on foot, the clerk reported.

Laconia police reviewed security footage following the robbery and provided area departments with a description of the suspect, as well as the vehicle seen dropping him off. Gilford police told the Laconia department they had located the vehicle and provided the registration number.

Officers said they ultimately found the vehicle and Kelso at 12 Batchelder St. in Laconia, where they took Kelso into custody. They seized clothing, a black BB gun, a 2005 Toyota Corolla and an unidentified amount of cash as part of the investigation, according to reports.

Kelso refused bail and was taken to Belknap County Jail to await his arraignment Monday.

Laconia police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 524-5252.
