Celebrate songs of love and the love of songs during the next two weeks of Bach’s Lunch programs at the Concord Community Music School.

Today at 12:10 p.m., Berklee College of Music Professor Mark Shilansky will present “When the Singer Meets the Song: Vocal Interpretation.”

A song is transformed through its performance by jazz and popular music vocalists, and even by the life circumstances of these artists, accruing meaning that its composer may not have intended.

Audience members will explore this process, listening to various versions of the song “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen, which has become almost ubiquitous in popular culture through versions by Jeff Buckley and Shrek, and “The Ballad of the Sad Young Men” by Fran Landesmann and Tommy Wolf, as performed by Anita O’Day, Roberta Flack, Mark Murphy, and Kurt Elling.

Next Thursday at 12:10 p.m., Peggo Horstmann Hodes and Kent Allyn will perform a Valentine’s-themed concert By the Light of the Silvery Moon: Valentines by Moonlight.

Musical selections include “Blue Moon,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” and “Dancin’ in the Moonlight,” among others. From corny to romantic, the duo’s songs will include favorite movie songs, jazz ballads, and Van Morrison.
