An 84-year-old Loudon man was killed in his driveway Thursday after he was pinned between a car and a tree, authorities said.

Loudon police Chief Kristoffer Burgess said police responded to a call at 12:02 p.m. for an unconscious individual. Loudon Fire Department responded as well.

Burgess confirmed reports that a man was pinned by a four-door sedan and died, though he wouldn’t confirm the address of the accident.

A car sat with one door open against a tree in a driveway along Loudon Ridge Road on Thursday afternoon. Snow covered the car’s windshield, and tire tracks lined the side of the driveway. Emergency personnel had left the scene three hours after the initial report.

Both Burgess and Loudon fire Chief Rick Wright said they were withholding the identity of the man out of respect for his family, and in order to notify next of kin.

Burgess added that it wasn’t immediately clear what happened, but the death appeared to be accidental.

“It still is under investigation,” Burgess said. “I can’t rule out anything at this point.”
