The UNH men’s hockey team lead for all of 53 seconds before No. 10 UMass-Lowell scored seven of the game’s next eight goals to seal an 8-2 victory in Lowell, Mass., on Saturday – handing the Wildcats their fifth loss in a row.
UNH’s Michael McNicholas scored a power play goal 8:01 into the first period, assisted by Matias Cleland and Tyler Kelleher. But the River Hawks (17-9-3) scored just 53 seconds later and continued to pepper UNH goalie Danny Tirone with shots until he was pulled midway through the third period after allowing six goals.
Cleland scored the only other goal for the Wildcats (11-13-6), who visit No. 12 Vermont for a pair of games next weekend.
