The Concord Boys and Girls Club third- and fourth-grade girls’ basketball team won the Bow Basketball Tournament. The Thunder went 3-0, defeating Bow once and Hopkinton twice to win their second tournament of the season with an overall tournament record of 6-0. Macy Swormstedt was named the tournament MVP and Kayla Smith was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Concord Boys and Girls Club fifth- and sixth-grade girls basketball team beat Laconia, 32-19, to win the Lou Athanas Youth Basketball Tournament in Laconia last weekend. Madison Kelley, Delaney Duford and Sarah Taylor were named to the All-Tournament team. Kennedy Ramos was named tournament MVP.
The Proctor Academy girls’ basketball team beat Watkinson, 64-34. Amanda Torres of Hudson scored 22 points and Manchester’s Angelique Ngalahulondi had 19 with 16 rebounds.
Seven gymnasts who train at Granite State Gymnastics in Bow competed in a pair of competitions last weekend – the Houston National Invitational in Galveston, Texas, and the Boston Classic Invitational in Millis, Mass. At the Houston National Invitational, Bow’s Owen Clemans (level seve) placed first on the still rings, second on the high bar, tied for second in the all-around and placed third on the pommel horse. Also in Houston, Jacob Harmon (level eight) of Hooksett tied for fourth on the floor and on the high bar; Elijah Gosselin (level eight) of Hooksett placed third on the pommel horse. At the Boston Classic Invitational, Lucas Topliff (level 4) of Loudon placed third on the high bar and fifth on the vault; Bryce Vaillancourt (level six) of Hooksett placed fourth on the floor, on vault and in the all-around; Jackson Mercer (level six) of Loudon placed second on the vault.
The Franklin High School Boosters Club will be sponsoring its Winter Sports Banquet on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the FHS cafeteria. A pot luck meal will begin at 6 p.m., followed by individual and specialty awards given by each team before splitting into classrooms for certificates and letters. The girls and boys basketball teams are responsible to bring main dishes and the wrestling and indoor track teams are to bring desserts.
The New England Wolves Elite hockey team’s JBT Benefit game will be played Saturday at Merrill Fay Ice Arena in Laconia. The Wolves will face the Vermont Lumberjacks with puck-drop at 6:30 p.m. Last year’s game raised almost $5,000 for the Cure Starts Now Foundation.
Culture of Sports conference hosted by NHTI Sports Management Club is on April 7 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event will include keynote speaker Jamie Staton from WMUR, plus Monitor Sports Editor Tim O’Sullivan and others.
