In the biggest game of the year so far for the Kearsarge High School boys’ basketball team, guard Tom Johnson put the team on his back to earn the Monitor Player of the Week award.
Facing potential elimination in the Division III tournament quarterfinals against No. 8 Campbell on Saturday, Johnson put on a shooting clinic, netting a ridiculous game-high 46 points with seven rebounds and three assists in a 79-67 win for the top-seeded Cougars.
Johnson shot 12-for-17 from the floor, connecting for a trio of 3-pointers while going an efficient 9 of 13 from inside the 3-point line. He also went a perfect 19-for-19 from the free-throw line, picking up career point No. 1000 along the way.
“It was one of the most amazing shooting displays I’ve ever seen as a coach,” Kearsarge Coach Nate Camp wrote to the Monitor on Sunday. “He was laser focused from pregame until our post-game talk.”
Kearsarge is set to face No. 5 Somersworth in the semifinals on Wednesday night.
