First he put out the fire in the bottom of the sixth inning. Then he started the two-out rally in the top of the seventh. And for an encore, Coe-Brown junior Brady Johnson pitched around an error in the bottom of the seventh to lead the Bears to a 7-4 win at Hollis-Brookline.

โ€œIt was a great overall day for Brady, for sure,โ€ Coe-Brown baseball Coach Sean Ashley said.

It was the third win in a row for the Bears (5-6), but before those three wins they had lost four straight, and three of those losses were by just one run. All of those close calls were weighing on the team as it faced a 4-2 deficit with two outs in the seventh.

โ€œThey were down a little bit, we had been losing some close games, but they never said die,โ€ Ashley said.

A single to center from Johnson (2-for-3, 2 RBI, run) gave the Bears a spark of hope. That spark grew when Brody Ashley cracked a triple to right center that plated Johnson. The Cavaliers (4-6) tried to get Ashley at third, but the ball skipped away and Ashley came home with the tying run.

Senior Noah Wojtkowski kept the rally going with a single to left. He moved to second when Joel Boulanger was a hit by a pitch, and Wojtkowski scored on a single from Jacob Rich (2-for-4, RBI, run). Max Judge (2-for-4, 2 RBI) delivered the final blow with a single up the middle to score Boulanger and Rich and make it 7-4.

Brody Ashley started for Coe-Brown and went 5 โ…”, striking out 10 and giving up six hits. Johnson staked him to a 2-1 lead with a two-run double in the fifth, and then bailed him out of trouble in the sixth when Ashley started to tire after another great start.
