The second annual 4th of July Photo Contest will take place in Andover again this year, and the deadline for notifying coordinator Jay Fitzpatrick (email Jay at jall@tds.net) that you intend to submit photos is June 15; he will then send further instructions. The contest is sponsored by the Andover Institute and open to amateur photographers of all ages. Participants may submit up to two photos, ready for hanging, to be brought to the Village Green on July 4. Photos must have been taken within the town of Andover (including East Andover and Potter Place). Entry is free and the public will get to vote on their favorites as part of the 4th of July celebration.

The town’s Memorial Day parade is taking place in Contoocook Village at 10 a.m. on Monday. The parade will include the VFW Color Guard, the Hopkinton Town Band, veterans from the VFA and American Legion Post 81, antique cars, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and youth sports teams. Dial-a-Ride is an all volunteer organization established in 1979 by Anne Slusser and the Hopkinton Woman’s Club in response to the needs of many Hopkinton seniors who were having difficulty getting to medical and personal appointments. Over the years, this service has continued and in 2017 the request for rides from Hopkinton seniors is greater than ever. During the past year, volunteers have provided 397 rides and have given 777 volunteer hours as drivers, breaking all prior records. A driver must be at least 18 years of age with a valid N.H. driver’s license, a safe car, and basic auto insurance. Please consider volunteering for Dial-a-Ride. You can really help. The students of Hopkinton Hawks Booster Club will walk, jog and run their way toward a healthier life while raising funds for their school. A Pittsfield Community Garden committee has been formed and they will meet each Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall. If you are interested in helping or would like more information, please attend the meeting.
The Greater Pittsfield Chamber of Commerce is offering a $500 scholarship. Students that are graduating high school in 2017 and live in the towns of Barnstead, Chichester, Epsom or Pittsfield and plan to continue your education are eligible to apply. Jungle Jim’s of Boston will be at Salisbury Elementary on Friday at 10:30 a.m. to kick off the Build a Better World program with a special presentation. All are welcome to join Salisbury Free Library, Mondays and Thursdays during normal storytime hours for our Summer Reading Program. Each week the library will be focusing on a different theme on how to Build a Better World from art to engineering with a variety of hosts. Check out a calendar of events on the website or stop in to pick up your own copy. If you cannot attend, there are other fun things for children to do anytime they stop into the library such as Borrower’s Club, raffles, and a Pokémon scavenger hunt!

On Sunday, Kenny Weiland’s CD release concert will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in The Gallery. A donation at the door gets you a CD and access to the show. Weiland, accompanied by Joey Pierog, Brad Myrick and others will perform songs off the record.
The Warner Historical Society Barn Sale has opened. Regular hours will be Tuesdays, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon. Stop in and see the many changes and new merchandise.
The Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum is pleased to announce its Membership Reciprocal program which will begin on Thursday. This program is designed for visitors to visit other participating museums and historic sites. If you are a member of the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum, you will be able to visit several participating museums and sites at no charge or discounted rates.
