Another year, another Laconia Motorcycle Week to keep first responders busy.
Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid, a mutual aid association providing fire and EMS dispatching services for 35 communities in the state, reported a total of 989 calls for service from June 9 to June 19 during the “Bike Week” period, which wrapped up its 94th year last week.
That represents a 31 percent increase from the amount of calls during last year’s Bike Week and a 43 percent increase over the average number of calls the service dispatches daily, according to a press release.
The service recorded 535 medical emergencies, 111 motor vehicle crashes and nine building fires, according to the press release.
The busiest times of day were between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., and the busiest days were June 12, June 14 and June 19.
Last year’s Bike Week kicked off to a rough start, with several motor vehicle accidents with serious injuries occuring at the beginning of the week.
