When Gene Heath of Allenstown went into cardiac arrest earlier this year, members of Allenstown and Pembroke emergency crews leapt into action to save his life.

On June 13, Heath was reunited with members of the emergeny crews who came to his rescue during a CPR training put together by Concord Hospital and the New Hampshire Fire Academy.

Stephanie Locke, one of the paramedics from Pembrooke, said the resuscitation was a team effort.

“The patient’s wife recognized it early on and began CPR,” she said. “The police officer arrived on scene and began CPR … the off duty Allenstown firefighter arrived on scene and began CPR because it is exhausting and then I arrived and took over with my partner and we worked as a team, following our training and education and successfully resuscitated him.”

Locke said being reunited was Heath was a fulfilling experience that showed the value of proper CPR training, a skill she said was vital in everyday life.

“It was very exciting and encouraging that our education and training paid off and it was a great example of teamwork,” she said.
