The Cedar Mill Group Capital Area Cyclones 10U softball team won the New Hampshire Babe Ruth District 3 Championship on Sunday, going 5-0 in the tournament to improve to 17-0 overall. The Cyclones will next head to the state tournament in Londonderry and will be traveling to Florida in August for the World Series.
University of New Hampshire standout senior Ellinor Purrier was named the 2017 Outdoor Track & Field Scholar Athlete of the Year for the America East conference. The award comes after Purrier earned All-American honors in all three track seasons and placed fourth at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the steeplechase.
The Weare Post 65 Junior Legion team defeated Milford on Wednesday, 16-2, in five innings. Brandon Langdon collected three RBI on two hits with a stolen base. Starting pitcher Brett Patnode picked up the win and drove in two runs. Patrick Brust and Braedon Miller each had two RBI.
During Sportszone Summer League action, the Bow Gold third- and fourth-grade boys’ basketball team lost to the Blazers, 42-18. Bow (1-1) was led by Jake Reardon, who scored 13 points. Peyton Larrabee chipped in with three points.
The Bow Blue third- and fourth-grade boys’ basketball team defeated Windham, 42-22, in Sportzone Summer League play. Tommy Tsouros paced Bow with 15 points, while Jake Reardon collected 14 points.
Alexandra Larrabee, Makayla Trudel and Meghan Shippos all scored two points for the Bow-Larrabee seventh- and eighth-grade girls’ basketball team in a 28-9 loss to Bow-Brochu in Sportszone Summer League action. For Bow-Brochu, Lyndsey and Isabella LePerle combined for 18 points.
Nashua Country Club’s Jack Brown and Thomas Ethier will play in the final match of the Championship Flight in the Boys State Junior Golf Championship on Thursday at Stonebridge Country Club in Goffstown.
Jean VerPlanck and her team of JoAnn Feldman, Jan Monahan and Mary Jane Bergman won the 1-2-3 Aggie Tournament at Concord Country Club. The foursomes’ best ball was 23-under par as the group won by 13 strokes. The team of Laura Turner, Marge Plodzik, Rachel Young and Lynne Hughan placed second.
The Hopkinton NH Lions Club will be sponsoring its 27th annual 5K Road Race and a 2.5 Fitness Walk on Oct. 8. The event will take place on a certified course with all proceeds benefiting the Lions’ Sight and Hearing Programs. The race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with the Fitness Walk following at 11:05 a.m. Both races will begin and end at the Slusser Senior Center in Contoocook. Preregister for the race by Oct. 5.
