The Cedar Mill Group Capital Area Cyclones 10U softball team won the New Hampshire Babe Ruth District 3 Championship on Sunday, going 5-0 in the tournament to improve to 17-0 overall. The Cyclones will next head to the state tournament in Londonderry and will be traveling to Florida in August for the World Series.
University of New Hampshire standout senior Ellinor Purrier was named the 2017 Outdoor Track & Field Scholar Athlete of the Year for the America East conference. The award comes after Purrier earned All-American honors in all three track seasons and placed fourth at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the steeplechase.
The Weare Post 65 Junior Legion team defeated Milford on Wednesday, 16-2, in five innings. Brandon Langdon collected three RBI on two hits with a stolen base. Starting pitcher Brett Patnode picked up the win and drove in two runs. Patrick Brust and Braedon Miller each had two RBI.
During Sportszone Summer League action, the Bow Gold third- and fourth-grade boysโ basketball team lost to the Blazers, 42-18. Bow (1-1) was led by Jake Reardon, who scored 13 points. Peyton Larrabee chipped in with three points.
The Bow Blue third- and fourth-grade boysโ basketball team defeated Windham, 42-22, in Sportzone Summer League play. Tommy Tsouros paced Bow with 15 points, while Jake Reardon collected 14 points.

The Hopkinton NH Lions Club will be sponsoring its 27th annual 5K Road Race and a 2.5 Fitness Walk on Oct. 8. The event will take place on a certified course with all proceeds benefiting the Lionsโ Sight and Hearing Programs.
