Softball champs

The New Hampshire Comets 14U (pictured above) went 5-0 to win the 16U Division at the MWV Classic. The Comets defeated the NE Diamond Gems (6-1), Plex (4-3), Seabrook, Mass. Titans (3-2), Maine Explosion (2-1) and Massachusetts Bay State Thunder (2-1) to capture the championship. Youth baseball

The Concord Little League 11/12 All-Star team beat Rye, 10-0. Ryan Philbrick struck out 10 batters and held Rye to one hit. Concord is now 3-0 in the District 2 Round Robin Tournament. Philbrick and Isaiah Robles both hit home runs. Brooks Craigue tripled, Kalan Gaudreault doubled and Danny Revellese, Jacob Wright and Noah Brent hit singles.

Golf results

The team of Jim Macdonald and Victor Racicot tied with Dave Mattson with Kraig Burnham at the top of Concord Country Clubโ€™s two-ball best-ball event with scores of nine under 61. The teams of Steve Murphy and Norm West, DJ Knapton and Dave Kruse, and Carl Moskey and Gary Jones tied for third with 62.

New Londonโ€™s Paul Lazdowski was the top area finisher at the Valley Seniors Golf Tournament event at Stonebridge Country Club. Lazdowski finished third, ahead of Hillsboroโ€™s Dave Fleming (fourth), Hopkintonโ€™s Brian Kelly (ninth) and Loudonโ€™s Joe Labontee (10th). Lazdowski and Labontee also won their respective age groups. Fleming, Hennikerโ€™s Jack Martin and Dunbartonโ€™s Paul Cathcart finished second in their age groups.

Concord Cannons Elite Baseball League Travel Program will be conducting tryouts for the 2017-2018 season on Aug. 12 for ages 10U-12U at NHTI in Concord from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tryout cost is $30. Included in the 10U-12U tryout fee is two pre-tryout workouts with Program Director Bryan Caruso on Aug. 8 and Aug. 10 at Concord Sports Center. The 13U-16U Cannons tryouts will be held on Aug. 13 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at NHTI.

The Seacoast United Cubs will host tryouts for its 2017-18 travel baseball club teams on Aug. 15-16, with the 9U/10U team meeting from 5-6:30 p.m. and the 11U/12U team at 6:30-8 p.m.. Concord Recreation boys middle school basketball league will be held on Sundays through July 30 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Green Street Community Center. League is 3-vs-3 and is for boys in grades 6-8.

Events

Concord City โ€œAโ€ Menโ€™s Tennis Tournament will be held at the Bow Brook Club starting Monday and running through July 16. Singles and doubles competition is open to any male resident of Concord or its contiguous towns. Members of the Bow Brook Club are also eligible. Entries will be taken by phone. 2nd Annual World Run-Paddle Biathlon Championship will be held on July 23 at the NHTI Boat Ramp starting at 10 a.m. Participants may do both the running and paddling solo, or compete with a teammate. Bow Recreation Bootcamp will be on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:15 to 8:15 a.m. for adults. Teen Fit Camp is also on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:15-9 a.m. throughout the summer. Registration is required. Contact the Bow Recreation office at 228-2222.

Middle school basketball players are invited to join Concord High School boysโ€™ basketball Coach David Chase for an evening of skills training and 3-on-3 scrimmages at the high school gym. Open to boys and girls in grades 6-8, the clinic will begin with a half hour focused on skills followed by an hour of 3-on-3 scrimmaging. UNH womenโ€™s soccer camps are now open for registration. The 2017 Junior Wildcat Girls Soccer Camp will be held from Monday through July 13. All female players in grades 1-5 (as of the 2017-18 academic year) are invited to register. Each day runs from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. This session costs $180. The 2017 UNH Girls Soccer Overnight Camp will be held from July 16-19. This session is open to all female player in grades 6-12 (as of the 2017-18 academic year).
