The New England Revolution honored Army Staff Sergeant Matt DeWitt of Hopkinton as the Hero of the Match at the team’s home game on Aug. 12 against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. DeWitt was recognized during a pregame ceremony for his bravery and service during his deployment in Iraq. Matt and his family had a sideline view of the Revs pregame warmups and enjoyed the game from the Putnam Club.

DeWitt was wounded in combat in 2003 and had both arms amputated below the elbow. In 2014, Matt and his wife, Cat, were gifted a specially adapted home from Homes for Our Troops. Matt now competes with State 9 cycling team to raise money for other injured Veterans, while Cat has also been fundraising to pay it forward and help fund future homes for other injured veterans.
