The fundraising efforts have officially begun for the 31st annual Concord Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration, which will be held as tradition dictates on Nov. 24 at the State House Plaza (City Plaza). Coordinator Dick Patten announces that he needs to raise additional funds to purchase 20 new sets of 100 light strings to replace the ones that got vandalized last year. A new harness must also be replaced, as that was totally vandalized as well. The plans are to have the horse-drawn wagon rides, pony rides, petting zoo, and music by Brian Waldron and Band. Santa Claus will be brought in by Concord Fire Department as in past years. There is hope that if money is raised, a magic show will be added, along with an additional wagon for rides. WJYY 105.5 has pledged to continue the Skip Houle Memorial Fireworks display following the lighting of the tree. There will be other activities scheduled as funds are raised. It is hopeful to collect canned food for the holiday food baskets along with new toys for children. This event began with 25 people to now over several thousand of all ages. Please send a check or money order payable to the Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration, c/o Dick Patten, 30 Pinewood Trail, Concord, 03301. Please call Dick at 496-2917 for more information.
